Knitting Machine
Preemie and Newborn Hat Pattern

by Michele S.

These hats were knit on a Singer 360 punchcard machine with sports weight yarn.

Sizes: (preemie x-small, small, medium, large and newborn small, large)

Pull out (60,78,88,102,110,120) needles push back every other needle to non-working position. Tension 6.  Cast on with waste yarn. Knit 1 row ravel cord. Knit ( 10,10,12,14,15,16) rows. Knit 1 row at Tension 8. Back to tension 6-knit ( 10,10,12,14,15,16 ) rows.

Hang hem on empty needles. All needles will be in working position. Remove ravel cord.  Change to Tension 8 row counter back to 000. Knit 2 rows. I usually knit a Fair Isle pattern for border (9 or 10 rows). Knit a total of ( 26,32,36,40,45,50) rows after hem.  Transfer to every other needle. Reduce tension to 5 and knit 4 or 5 rows.  Take off the machine with double-ended transfer tool or on waste yarn.

Pull together stitches at the top of the hat and sew side seam.  Add pom-pom.
